Credit Unions? Okay, I've never understood credit unions. Can you just sign up with one? Or do you have to be employed with a certain company?
What is the situation between Credit Unions and Commercial Banks? In my Principles of Banking and Finance class , my professor wants us to write about the situation and issues going on. I have googled and used yahoo search but cannot find anything that seems relevant. Any ideas on what he is talking about? It is an online class so I can tell you that his question is stated exactly like this: "In this country we have situation between Credit Unions and commercial banks. What is going on? What are the issues? You may have to do a little Web research to answer this question." Please let me know of any ideas you may have. Thank You.
Do federal credit unions normally charge a fee for accepting IRA transfer? I am interested in transferring my IRA money from the investment firm to my new IRA CD account with the local federal credit union. Do federal credit unions normally charge a fee for that? Or do investment firms normally charge a fee for that? I could not get info on that. I understand it might be different depending on credit unions. But I am just wondering if they do or not as a common standard. Does anyone know? Thank you.
How does the recent "credit crunch" effect credit unions? Ranging from small to very large credit unions, how does the credit crunch effect the financial stability of a credit union? Also, how does it effect the overall ability of a credit union to make loans (mortgage, personal, auto, credit card)?
Where can I find a list of credit unions that I can join? Where can I find a list of credit unions that I can join? I am in my twenties and don't belong to any organization. I was hoping that some could tell me how to find a credit union since I don't know where to even look for one in the first place. I am looking for one with a low starting price that is more likely to offer car loans. Thanks.
Can credit unions update collections every time my credit is ran? I defaulted on a car loan (repo) from a credit union 4 1/2 yrs ago. They update this default pretty much every time someone runs my credit to make it look like it just happened. I know I owe the money and would pay if I could but is this really legal? What can I do about it?
With all the concern about banks, why has there been no mention made of how well the credit unions are doing? We have roughly two dozen credit unions within a 10-mile radius, yet several stories about bank collapses in local papers lately have only mentioned that the community banks are safe. Are credit unions that ignored? Two of them have assets in excess of $500 million, so I know it's not a size issue. Is it that banks are shaky but everyone knows that credit unions (with NCUA insurance and no exposure to debt markets) are safe, so there's no story? Thoughts?
If the credit unions dis approved me and my co-signer will dealerships too? I have no credit, my mom wants to help and co-sign for me but her credit isnt excellent, I think its probably ok- good. We got turned down from one credit union, I heard they were the easist to get approval. If they turned us down wont the dealerships? If not what type of interest rate do you think I would have?
What are the pros and cons of both banks and credit unions? I know this is kind of a general question...but as a general rule of thumb, what are the pros and cons of using a bank and using a credit union? Why would I want to bank at a bank, rather than a credit union, and vice-versa? I'm asking because I need to open an account somewhere in a new area (Cali), and I need to know where to smartly put my money.
Are there any banks or credit unions in Las Vegas that do not use chex systems? I recently found out I am in the chex systems database for something that happened in Oct 2004. I am working on removing myself from the database (which is a complete friggin nightmare) and was wondering if anybody knew of a bank or credit union in Vegas I can open an account with. I had an account (which I closed) before I tried to open another one and thats when I found out. Never rec'd anything from the old bank saying there were issues with the account. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Are there insurance company equivalents of credit unions? I had someone once tell me there were insurance companies that acted like credit unions. Where the members owned the company and it made things cheaper. Does anyone know about these? Is there a list to choose from, provided you are qualified.
what's the difference between banks and credit unions....? for some odd reason, I have always heard credit unions were better but is it true? I have my checking/savings account at Golden 1 Credit Union and my grandma has hers at Citi Bank and other than the people at my bank are nicer and more into their customers, they seem the same.... what EXACTLY is the difference?
Can you help me understand how leasing a car works? Credit Unions? I called a car dealership and asked if they financed and said no "in-house financing" but they do accept credit unions? They recommended Texas Workforce Credit Union ( I live in Austin, TX). I have never leased a car before but have bought an older car in cash. Please help me understand the basics!
Can credit unions defer payments if someone needs help? I am having a baby in May and I will be out of work until August b/c I am a teacher. We don't get paid in the summer. Can a credit union defer a car payment or has anyone ever heard of this? I have never missed a payment, it's just that resources will be low until work resumes in August.
Should we all move our money to credit unions or community banks? The big banks are all reported to be "too big to fail." Another statement that I agree with is "if they are too big to fail, they are too big to exist" What if the individual bank customers would withdraw their money and deposit it into a credit union and/or a community bank? I understand the implications of a "run on a bank" but it seems that the big banks should be held accountable for their actions by its customers. If they caused themselves to be candidates for nationalization, they should not have good customers. If the big banks managed their affairs in such a way to cause economic dismay - why not take out your money and give it to a stronger institution (even if it is smaller)
Do credit unions refinance student loans? I have a little under $20,000 in student loans. I am trying to look for a bank or credit union that I can I guess "refinance" my loans with. The company that I pay only has a 10 year plan which makes my minimum payment near $300 a month. I am looking to extend my 10 year plan to 15 or 20 years so that it is more affordable for me now... and then later I can pay more as I move up in my career. Any suggestions?

Do most banks offer career loans? How about Credit Unions? I would like to attend a recording arts school for two months and would like to borrow about $7,000. Would the Credit Union I belong to be the place to start or should I just go through the school's financial aid package? Also if the Credit Union could do it what would the requirements be. I do have cosigners available. Thanks so much.
Are Credit Unions good for investments? I've just turned 18 & I've come into some money, and I might be working with 20,000, so I would like to know what are some good investments options that credit unions offer. I've heard that you receive more interest a month if you you deal with the credit union. I'm very new to this stuff & I just need some good investment advice. If anyone could offer me advice on a brokerage account that would be very helpful, because I have one but don't understand anything dealing with the account. I don't know anything about stocks & bonds. Please help, because any advice would be helpful.
